Weekend Wanderings - It's a Great Day for a Car Show

Hubby is always ready for a car show and with Spring in the air, I think anyone who owns a vintage automobile is ready to pull it out of the garage and show it off.

I know of someone who would LOVE this car!!

I like how the owner had a special bumper made that almost makes this car look like it's smiling

These are some awesome flames

I loved the color scheme of this old truck, but not really into the tilting bed. I guess if I was unloading a large piece of furniture it might come in handy ~LOL!!

This looked like a fun ride

There was so much chrome on these cars that most of my pictures came out blurry

But overall, I think this was the funnest looking car of the day! Top down and ready to go!!

Pinata Party

My two kids are 5 years apart. But their birthdays are actually one week apart - February 21 & February 28!! Since they are still young enough to not really care about their age differences, I thought that I would plan a large party that both of them could enjoy. Besides the fact that we have never lived close enough to our families that any of them could enjoy a party anyway. So I decided that a bouncy house with popcorn machine, cotton candy and snowcones would be perfect. Oh, and PINATAS!! Handmade....by Moi.

I read & followed the instructions found here with a few minor adjustments.
Being a boy, Dane loves Transformers. So we decided on an Autobot . Doing a quick search on Google for the image, he picked one out. I did have to enlarge it on the copy machine a few times to get it the right size and then cut out each individual piece.

I then took a large piece of cardboard and made the base.

I didn't get a picture of this part, but I can explain. I took each of the individual pieces and cut it out of cardboard (NOTE: if you are thinking about doing this, start a month ahead of time and save ALL the cereal, pizza and soda boxes that you can!!). I then took crepe paper streamers and cut a long strip, folded it in two and cut the streamers. Then glued those onto the individual pieces and then glued those pieces onto the main base. This took some trial and error to figure it all out. This was way I say that I used the original link as a guide.

Another Note to Self: If working on this project early in the morning and still drinking coffee, make sure your homemade Modge Podge jar is clearly marked so that you don't accidentally pick it up to drink instead of your coffee. Just saying'.

Next, Gracyn decided on a donkey. She did make a comment about a unicorn, and Dane, brilliant boy that he is, looked at me and said, 'Just make the donkey, Mama, and put a stick on it's head'.  This probably would have worked, but she was just as happy with the little donkey and I was running out of time.

This is what it looks like on the inside. See, I told you that you need to save all those boxes!!Thank goodness
we recycle.

Hubby provided us with entertainment in his attempts to throw the rope over the tree limb.

Gracyn gave this little donkey a good whack!!

Hubby thought it would be funny to pull the rope each time one of the boys took a swing!!

Since this was a party for both a boy and a girl plus the fact that I know that most people don't have a lot of extra money to buy gifts added to the fact that they really didn't need anything, I stated on the invits to just bring two balloons. Then right before the party was over, the birthday boy and girl got to make a wish and let the balloons go!!

We did get to spoil the kids. The bouncy house was rented from a friend of the family and he let us keep it until Monday!!

Overall, they had a great time!

Weekend Wanderings - Island Mardi Gras

It's Mardi Gras time in Mobile. And it can get very crazy in the midst of all the revelers. Thankfully there are still a few areas that hold parades that are still family-friendly. Dauphin Island is one of them.

I always enjoy the scenery on the way over.

One day I expect to see some huge alligator or some prehistoric sea creature come lumbering out of the swamp.

You must cross a huge bridge to get onto the island.

People from all over were visiting.

Lots of people were on their way to the parade!!

Welcome to the Island

People will use anything as a float

I have no idea what is wrong with my son in this picture. Maybe he just got hit in the eyeball with a moonpie. Or maybe his sister smacked him over some beads.

Throw me somethin' Mister! (or Missus)

Jazz band was all jazzed out.

HAPPY MARDI GRAS  Y'ALL !!!

The Good and The Bad

Unfortunately some really good news is followed by some rather bad news.
Good News First:

I got to meet author Joshilyn Jaskson!!

For some of you that live in or close to really BIG cities, author tours are probably common. But not so much down here. So I was super excited to see the local library was having Joshilyn  to come and speak about her new book  A Grown-up Kind of Pretty.

She was a load of FUN!! If you haven't read anything by here, I highly recommend that you do. And for even more fun, read her blog.   She's a hoot!

This sent me home with a huge smile on my face!

    .................................................................................................

But sadly, the smile didn't last long.

Our new puppy, Zoey, is sick. She has parvo. I have taken her to the vet and received some at-home medication. We were going to have to take out a small loan for the vet to treat her (the cost of all medical expenses, either human or canine is outrageous!! ).
So I chose to take care of her at home. She still has not eaten anything since Sunday, but I am getting fluids into her. Please say a prayer to the Big Dog in the Sky that this little gal is feeling better soon!

Anna Lorren

It began as this.
Typical 1950's Maple desk made by Virginia House.

But I saw a quite beauty hiding behind the plain facade.

A few repairs were needed. I've been told that I spend too much time with the little things.

But I think the little things matter.

So she had some nips and tucks taken care of .

Some exfoliating done to bring out her natural beauty.

Again, the little details. The inside of these drawers so horrible. That was going to have to change if she was going to wear my logo.

Any of you who follow me on Facebook remember this. I was really wanting to give this piece a WoW Factor, but I think it was a little overboard. And every agreed.

So, a few more changes....

She is now the Belle of the Ball!

The inside of the drawers are now beautiful.
